BISCAST, Naga City – The Bicol State College of Applied Sciences and Technology (BISCAST) Spartans bagged a total of 39 gold, 25 silver, and 13 bronze medals in the recently concluded 2018 Regional SCUAA Olympics held at Sorsogon State College, Sorsogon City on January 11-16.

BISCAST placed third or 2nd runner up among nine state universities and colleges (SUCs) in the Bicol Region.

BISCAST generated gold medals in the following sports events: arnis (17), taekwondo (7) chess (4), karatedo (2), dance sport (1).

Also, the school raked in silver medals on events like arnis (10), chess (4), karatedo (4), taekwondo (3), badminton (3) and volleyball (1).

The 16 bronze medals came from BISCAST’s arnis (3), athletics – 3000 and 5000 meter run (2), taekwondo (3), karatedo (2) and beach volleyball (2).

Abegail Marco, BISCAST’s bet for Miss SCUAA placed 1st runner up (silver) while Christian Alemania won as Mr. SCUAA 2nd runner up (bronze).

The Bicol SCUAA this year focused on the theme “SCUAA: Creating Bonds thru Sports in the 21st Century”.

Present to grace the said occasion were Dr. Modesto D. Detera, PASUC V Chairman, Hon. Governor Robert L. Rodrigueza of Sorsogon, Hon. Evelina G. Escudero, Congresswoman of the 1st District of Sorsogon, and the SUC Presidents.

Bicol University, also last year’s champion topped the medal tally and was followed by Central Bicol State University of Agriculture (CBSUA).

It was participated by different SUCs such as Camarines Norte State Colleges, Camarines Sur Polytechnic College, Sorsogon State College, Dr. Emilio B. Espinosa Sr. Memorial State College of Agriculture and Technology, and the Partido State University.

Meanwhile, the National SCUAA Olympics will take place in Antique province on February 21-26, 2018 hosted by Region VI, Western Visayas.
